We've All Been There

Short Film Analysis • Part 2: The Deep Dive

Warm-Up: The Butterfly Effect

In movies, one tiny event can change everyone's destiny. Discuss these "What If?" scenarios with your partner. How would the story have ended?

What if the old lady had never gotten a flat tire on the road?

What if the young man had simply kept the $100 tip for himself?

What if the pregnant waitress had been rude to the old lady?

Task 1: The Second Viewing

Watch the video one more time. Today, do not focus on the plot. Instead, take notes on the unspoken emotions, the body language, and the cinematography.

📝 Investigative Notes:

  • Why do you think the young man was crying in his car before finding the old lady?
  • How does the lighting change between the diner and the ending scenes?
  • Look closely at the final shot. What emotion is on the waitress's face?

Task 2: Character Point of View (Writing)

Yesterday you wrote a general summary. Today, you must write a summary from the perspective of one of the characters. Write it as if it were a page in their personal diary.

Task 3: The Critic's Debate (Speaking)

It's time to debate the true meaning of the film. Discuss these profound questions with your partner. Justify your answers with evidence from the video.

The Masterpiece?

What do you truly think about the video? Do you consider it an interesting story, or is it too cliché and predictable?

The Moral Dilemma

The young man lied to his pregnant wife about where he got the money. Was his lie justified to protect her stress levels?

Social Reflection

This film touches on single motherhood, unemployment, and the struggles of the working class. How accurately does this reflect reality in modern society?
