Connecting Present Habits to Future Predictions

📖 Read & Listen: Marvin's Strict Routine

Pay attention to Marvin's habits. They will help us predict his future!
Young man talking

"Hi! My name is Marvin Rogers. I’m a man of habits. On weekdays I go to work, come back home, watch some TV and then I go to bed. In bed I chat with my friends for an hour, and I turn off the lights at 10:30.

On weekends, I get up at 7 am, take a shower, and go out. I always have breakfast at Nino’s restaurant. I love his Italian eggs with mozzarella cheese. After that, I go to the barber shop to have a haircut. I like to have my hair short. Then I go for a walk in Central Park. I like to take photos of people and birds. I enjoy eating hot dogs in the park.

After lunch I go to my sister’s house to pick up my nephews. I always take them to the zoo or the playground, and in the evening, we go to the movies. They are the ones who choose the movie. That’s what I do on my weekends."

🔮 Grammar Bridge: Predicting the Future

Why do we use "WILL" here?

In the text above, Marvin talks about his present routines. But because his habits are so strict, we can easily guess what he is going to do next weekend!

Rule: In English, we use the future verb tense to talk about actions in the future. We use "Will" for predictions, promises, and offers.

Structure: Subject + will + base form of verb.
Example: "Since he always wakes up at 7 am, I predict he will wake up at 7 am next weekend too!"
🧠 Neuro-Mnemonic (Campayo Style):
Imagine "WILL" as a magical Crystal Ball 🔮. Whenever you make a prediction about someone, imagine looking into the crystal ball and saying the word "WILL".
🗣️ Michigan Pronunciation & TPR:
Native speakers usually contract "will".
"He will" sounds like "He'll" (rhymes with "heel" 🥿).
"I will" sounds like "I'll" (rhymes with "aisle" 🛒).

TPR Action: Snap your fingers every time you say "'ll" to create muscle memory for the contraction!

🎯 Practice 1: What will he do next weekend?

Look into your crystal ball 🔮. Based on his habits, predict Marvin's actions.
1. At 7:00 am, he...
2. For breakfast, he...
3. In Central Park, he...
4. In the evening, they...

✍️ Practice 2: What will YOU do?

Think about your usual weekends. Write 3 predictions about what you will do next Saturday. Remember to use I'll.

  • 1. Next weekend, I'll ______________________________________.
  • 2. I think I will _________________________________________.
  • 3. I'll probably __________________________________________.

🕵️‍♂️ Practice 3: Two Truths & One Lie

Write 3 activities you will do next weekend. Two must be TRUE, one must be FALSE.

Prepare your trap!
