The Great Train Robbery: Interrogation & Questions

🚨 Warm-Up: The Alibi

Let's see who the best detective in the class is!

"Where were you last night?"

A bank was robbed yesterday at exactly 10:00 PM.
You must provide an alibi (una coartada) using the Past Continuous.

Example: "I was watching Netflix with my dog."

The teacher will interrogate 3 students. If you hesitate (dudas), you are SUSPICIOUS!

🧩 The Interrogation Generator

How do detectives extract information? They ask the right questions!
Question Formation Rule:
To ask for specific information in the past, we use:

Wh- Word + DID + Subject + Base Verb?
Example: Where did they hide the loot?

*Exception: If the Wh- Word is the SUBJECT (Who did it?), we do not use 'did'.
Example: Who robbed the bank?
Evidence Collected: 0/5

Mission: Read the fact from the case file. Build the correct question to get that answer!

Fact: The story began months earlier.
1. Form the question starting with WHEN:
Fact: They chose a lonely spot north of London.
2. Form the question starting with WHERE:
Fact: The whole operation took 30 minutes.
3. Form the question starting with HOW LONG:
Fact: The public reaction was sympathetic.
4. Form the question starting with HOW:
Fact: You are the bank robber. I want you to confess.
5. Complete the Tag Question: "You robbed the train, __________?"

Work in pairs. Use past tense questions and tag questions!

Interrogate the suspect. Use Tag Questions to pressure them!

  • "You were at the train station, weren't you?"
  • "Where did you hide the loot?"
  • "Who helped you plan the heist?"

Deny everything using the Past Continuous or invent a crazy story!

  • "No, I wasn't! I was sleeping in my house."
  • "I didn't steal any money."
  • "I don't know what you are talking about!"

  • Where will the party be?

  • What music will you play so everyone has a blast?
