Building a Narrative: From Images to Mysteries
Work in groups of 3. Look at the image above. You must invent a story, but each student can only create one part!
A good story is like a roller coaster. It needs structure to be exciting. Always divide your writing into these 3 paragraphs and use Transition Words to connect your ideas.
Set the scene. Introduce the characters, the time, and the place. (Past Continuous is great here).
Something goes wrong! Introduce the problem or the mystery. (Use Simple Past for action).
How is the problem solved? What is the final result? Tie up the loose ends.
"And our last-hour report. A few minutes ago, the police reported that they just found the body of a woman in an isolated area on the road to Willow Village.
The woman was about 25 years old, and showed signs of extreme violence. The police believe that it was a crime of passion, since she was hit several times. She was murdered somewhere else and her body was dumped in that place.
The police have begun an extensive investigation to locate her assassin. The only clues found nearby were a coffee receipt and a broken cell phone in a trash can. If you know this woman, please, contact the police immediately."
