Many, many years ago, when the world was still young, Chameleon lived in a far away place beyond the seas and mountains. Chameleon loved to go to the beach in the evening.

He was fascinated by the colors of the sky, and he absolutely adored listening to the birds and the swish of the wind when it blew the leaves of the trees. He used to sit on the sand until the sun went down on the horizon. Crocodile did too. Crocodile used to stay still in the water to listen to the sounds of the evening.

One day Crocodile said, "My dear friend, I like you so much that I want you to join me and my family for dinner." To this, Chameleon answered, "But how could I go? I would die. I can’t breathe in the water."

Crocodile gathered his family and told them, "Tomorrow I’ll bring supper! Please don’t eat anything until I come. Foolish Chameleon had believed my story."

The next day, Chameleon saw the big mouth open. He grabbed a stick of wood and threw it inside. At that moment, the crocodile closed his jaws very hard, and the stick cracked!

Since that day, Chameleon walks very slowly and he always looks back, just in case...
