How to talk about things that are NOT true right now.

We use the Second Conditional to talk about imaginary, unreal, or highly improbable situations in the present or future.

IF + Subject + Simple Past, Subject + WOULD + Base Verb

If I had a lot of money, I would travel around the world.
If she apologized to me, I would forgive her.

🚨 THE "WERE" EXCEPTION (Very Important!):
In the Second Conditional, when we use the verb TO BE after If, we usually use WERE for all subjects (I, He, She, It). It shows that the situation is 100% imaginary.
✔️ If I were you, I wouldn't do that.
✔️ If David were taller, he could play in the NBA.

*Note: You can also use could or might instead of would!*
