Present Perfect vs. Present Perfect Continuous

Let's talk about food records! Be honest!

Discuss these questions with your partner. What is your personal record?

🌮 1. What is the maximum number of tacos you have eaten in one day?

🍕 2. How many slices of pizza have you eaten in 10 minutes?

☕ 3. How many cups of coffee have you drunk today?

We use Present Perfect to count quantities!

🧠 Grammar Core: Result vs. Action

Are you focusing on the QUANTITY finished, or the DURATION of the activity?

The difference between these two tenses depends on what is more important to you: the Result or the Process.

1. Present Perfect Simple
have/has + Past Participle

Focus: The Result & Quantity.
Question: How much? / How many?

"I have eaten three burgers."
(Focus on the 3 burgers).

2. Present Perfect Continuous
have/has + been + Verb-ING

Focus: The Action & Duration.
Question: How long?

"I have been eating for two hours."
(Focus on the 2 hours).

⚠️ Stative Verbs Rule:
Verbs of the mind or state (know, believe, like, have) are almost NEVER used in the continuous form.
✔️ "I have known him for years."
❌ "I have been knowing him..." (Incorrect).
