Play the scene!
Angry Dad
Sara! What were you doing with that boy?
Sara
We were just talking, Dad. We’re friends.
Angry Dad
I don’t want to see you with him again.
Sara
But why not? What’s wrong with him?
Angry Dad
What’s wrong with him? He’s the baker’s son! He has no fortune!
Sara
And so what? You like bread, don’t you?
Angry Dad
That’s not the point. He’s not good enough for you. I want a millionaire for you!
Sara
But Daddy, I love him! And besides, there will always be fresh croissants on my table. Don’t you think that is true wealth?
💬 Quick Debate: Is the father right to worry, or is Sara right about the croissants?

🧩 Grammar Core: Subject vs. Object

Who does the action, and who receives it?

In English, we have two types of pronouns:

  • Subject Pronouns: The stars of the show. They DO the action. (Before the verb).
  • Object Pronouns: The receivers. The action happens TO them. (After the verb or preposition).
Subject (Does the action)Object (Receives the action)
I (I love)Me (Love me)
You (You love)You (Love you)
He (He loves)Him (Love him)
She (She loves)Her (Love her)
It (It loves)It (Love it)
We (We love)Us (Love us)
They (They love)Them (Love them)

❤️ Verbs of Emotion (Love, Like, Hate, Want)

We use Object Pronouns after these verbs to avoid repeating the person's name.

"Where is Mark? I hate him!" (Not: I hate he).

"Look at those shoes. I want them!"
