LESSON 34: BUT DAD, I LOVE HIM!!! – OBJECT PRONOUNS, LOVE, LIKE, HATE, WANT
The Grammar Soap Opera: Object Pronouns & Verbs of Emotion
Instructions: Get in pairs. One person will read a dramatic sentence. The other person must gasp loudly (jadeo de sorpresa), put their hand on their chest, and respond with extreme emotion.
In English, we have two types of pronouns:
| Subject (Does the action) | Object (Receives the action) |
|---|---|
| I (I love) | Me (Love me) |
| You (You love) | You (Love you) |
| He (He loves) | Him (Love him) |
| She (She loves) | Her (Love her) |
| It (It loves) | It (Love it) |
| We (We love) | Us (Love us) |
| They (They love) | Them (Love them) |
We use Object Pronouns after these verbs to avoid repeating the person's name.
"Where is Mark? I hate him!" (Not: I hate he).
"Look at those shoes. I want them!"
Ask your partner about famous people, food, or movies without repeating the noun.
Answer with extreme emotion! You MUST use an object pronoun (him, her, it, them).
Will Sara marry the baker's son? Will her Dad accept him?
